Tip of the week – Trim tabs

On most single engine boats we have an issue with listing or leaning to one side as we run on a plane. This is caused by different factors such as propeller torque or to many people standing on the dry side of the boat.
The simple cure for this is Trim tabs. They range in price and models such as hydraulic or electric.
One important factor in selection is boat size. Don’t fill that to big is better, as you may not have enough room to do a proper installation. An important factor is to install them as far outside of the transom as possible but not flush with the sides of the boat. This could cause accidental damage against a dock or when loading on a trailer. Also make sure bottom of trim tab is above bottom of boat by about a 1/2 inch. This will prevent drag when there up.
Typical installation is about 6 hrs and does not require special tools.
This will increase your ride, dryness and fuel economy.
